If it didn't help, I would have an extra sensor and I can definitely rule out the temp sensor. Considering that the sensor is only 15 dollars, I went ahead and did that. I had read somewhere that somebody had to replace the coolant temp sensor after a thermostat change. It wont go over 229, however once it does cool off it could drop the temps all the way to 210 or only to 221. My third observation: the temps are sporadic. the few times that I got out to check it when my gauge says its in the 225-229 range, the radiator was too hot to touch. My second observation: The radiator is HOT. after driving for a week and a half like this the temps haven't gone over 230 degrees (still really hot but those were WOT pulls to see what the temps did). In between 225-229 the fans would kick on and drop the temps to 220 (and the thermostat would open I assume). This Is what I observed: The coolant temps wouldn't go over 229 degrees. after it cooled a bit, I continued to drive and monitor the temps. I immediately switched off my car because I wasn't close to home. Fans started to run full blast, so I switched over to my coolant setting and it was at 225 degrees. I monitored the coolant temps for a week afterwards and it would consistently stay 195-205 degrees at 70 degrees ambient.įast forward to the last week and a half, I noticed the same problem occurring. The old thermostat was in pieces when I took it out so it clearly was the thermostat. The radiator was ice cold indicating that the coolant wasn't allowed to flow to the radiator, coolant reservoir was cold also. I did some test before I ruled that It was the thermostat. I quickly turned on my heat full blast and made it the last few minutes home (I had read about all of the thermostat issues) and the temps didn't go over 240 degrees before I made it home. Last month I noticed the cooling fans running full blast and my P3 coolant read 230 degrees and climbing quickly. I have a 2010 S4 that I bought a little over a year ago. This is my first post so forgive me if I do something wrong.
